A Proud Daddy Moment

Byron K Patrick CPA.CITP MCSE 2003 | April 16, 2009

2 years ago both of my daughters wanted to do the March of Dimes walk.  They had some friends doing it and they wanted to join in on the fun.    We went, they road their scooters for 2.5 miles while I walked behind.  It was a blast!  ;)

Last year there didn’t seem to be any interest so it came and went.  This year however my youngest daughter Riley decided she wanted to help.  It was discussed at school and she brought home the form and expressed her interest.  We asked her if there was someone else doing it that she wanted to do it with and she said, “No one, I just want to help babies.”  Wow, watch me as I turn to silly putty and agree to anything at that moment.  I couldn’t be prouder.

So I promised her I would do everything I could to help her raise money for babies….

The True Cloud Computing

Byron K Patrick CPA.CITP MCSE 2003 | April 7, 2009

So everyone out there wants to say they are part of the game.  “Use our software, it lives in the cloud”  “Our software brings cloud computing to you”  blah blah blah…..

Consider walking into your kitchen to get a snack. We all like to look in the pantry and see what jumps off the shelf.  Except this time you need to think, “Pantry #1 Can Foods, Pantry #2 Bag Foods, Pantry #3 Healthy Foods, Pantry #4  Box Foods.”  Ugh you now have to figure out which pantry to open to determine what snack you want.  This isn’t how you want your software and data is it??

You want a single Pantry to open just like I want a single cloud to log into.  Sure you could go out and sign-up for Intacct’s ERP and Microsoft’s Live Office or Google Docs and Creative Solutions Virtual Office and Intuits QuickBooks Online etc etc.  And yes, you can now say you are cloud computing.  Not only are you cloud computing you have now spread your data and applications across many clouds.  Wow, how overwhelming for employees… “hmmm, which cloud do I need today??”, “Which login do I use this time??”, when there is trouble, “Which number do I call??”  Ugh!

A real (well real in my book anyway) Cloud Computing solution take all of your data and all of your existing “Best of Breed” applications and puts it into a single cloud for you and your staff.  Not only is there now a single doorway to the cloud there is also a single support phone number, a single support email address, and a single monthly utility bill to support it all.  Now that is living in the cloud.

Our clients live in a single cloud with their programs they are already used to.  They don’t have to learn the new systems and learn the limitations of a single hosted application because everything works like it worked before.  The applications have the same interface and the data lives in the same place it has always lived.

When you decide it is time for your company to work in the cloud, don’t buy a partial solution, buy a complete solution that puts you and your business in a single cloud!  Watch this 2 minute demo to see what it looks like for our clients to live in the cloud.

Irony?

Byron K Patrick CPA.CITP MCSE 2003 | April 2, 2009

So I was reading a blog on another Technology Consulting firms site, titled “Where is this link going? Click Here.”  It was all about not using “Click Here” anywhere on your web site.  And it made a lot of great points and even made me do a  quick search on our site for any “Click Here’s.”  Fortunately i had none.

So I went back to the blog to make a comment about how I had been inspired by the post and even searched my own site to make sure I hadn’t made the mistake they were commenting on.  I tried to click the link to post a comment and this is what it looked like:
